The rapid advancement of AI has brought about significant changes in various aspects of our lives, from education to work and everything in bеtwееn. It has become imperative for us to embrace this new reality and quip ourselves with the knowledge and tools to navigate the evolving land-scape.

But don’t worry, this book is here to guide you every step of the way! Written with a friendly and accessible tone, we will unravel the mysteries of AI and its impact on our children’s potential. You don’t need to be an expert in technology; will break down complex concepts into easy-to-understand explanations.

Just as massive open online courses (MOOCs) once sparked both fear and excitement in the world of higher education, the quantum leap in the adoption of AI technology is also sparking significant levels of panic and potential as we navigate the way AI—specifically generative AI—is revolutionizing our capacity to work and learn.
Where I focus—and where I think there are uncharted and incredible new opportunities—is how AI can and will supercharge our world and capabilities rather than outright replace them. That’s the potential—and not the panic!
This mixed reaction to AI is not unique to higher ed. AI, we must remember, has been around for a while. Heck, MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), where I served as director, was founded over 20 years ago. And the MIT AI lab, a precursor to CSAIL, was founded over 60 years ago. So the technology and ensuing conversations are not new. What’s different now is that the technology has seen a quantum improvement in the past few years—with generative AI being able to create new, human-caliber content versus the AI staples of classification and decision making.
Rather than fearing AI or opposing its progress, we must focus on understanding and harnessing its potential to support learners in achieving their goals. Generative AI tools like ChatGPT are no longer futuristic dreams but rather practical realities for many students today.
